I am a volunteer computer teacher for the Gilde foundation at Heerlen. Each week I teach computer classes, including Windows 98, Internet, E-mail and in the near future Word and making homepages, most of my students are senior citizens. The training syllabus has been developed by the teachers. This activity gives me great satisfaction considering the results that can be achieved when working with students that start from scratch, they have never touched a computer before. After 8 classes they have reasonable computer skills such as using the Internet and E-mail.
In spite of the time and effort required for these classes this is a relaxing activity.

I also provide computer tutorial classes for individual students, without age restrictions. Generally speaking these tutorials are at the students home. The main benefit of this approach is that the students can use their own computer that they are familiar with.
Computer training classes are also available for organizations, on a small scale. The number of trainees and available time are decisive factors for this type of training. These classes are not free of costs as a training fee will be charged for each student (including the cost of training material).

Computer classes in Senior Citizen Home
In the past, I also provided computer classes for people in a Senior Citizen Home. Most of these people need care but they still are interested in acquiring basic computer skills. The initial goal was to teach them to operate the computer Next I teached them to use the internet and E-mail. They can have their own e-mail account which enables them to send mail to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren We also planned to do things like word-processing, chatting, scanning pictures etcetera if people were interested. I admire these elderly people for their courage to start learning something completely new at their age. Still, the computer makes it easier to keep in touch with the world around them and in particular when family members live abroad. E-mail is much easier and faster than writing a letter. The internet enables them to find information on their favorite subjects.Providing these computer classes gave me great satisfaction, especially when I saw how much fun these people had while learning to use the computer.
